Basic Course

Location: Coquitlam Amateur Radio Club
The basic course usually consists of two to three weekends (or a combination of weekends and weekday evenings) for a total of 24-30 hours of instruction and demonstrations with the final exam being given on the last day of the course.
The course consists of:
- Rules and regulations
- Operating procedures
- Station assembly, practice and safety
- Basic electronic theory
- Feed lines and antennae
- Radio wave propagation
- Interference and suppression
The final exam consists of 100 questions with a pass mark of 70%. This will qualify the student for VHF and UHF privileges and a call sign. Those who achieve a pass mark of 80% or better qualifies them for the HF bands privileges.
